Instead of choosing a wedding venue and making it feel like yours, you can start with somewhere that already feels personal and build the celebration around it.

At a traditional wedding venue, much of the infrastructure is already there.
With a marquee or tipi, the space your guests experience has to be created around the wedding.
That means the structure, practical requirements, supplier setup and guest experience cannot be planned separately. Every part needs to work together from the very beginning.
One decision can affect everything else
The position of the marquee can affect supplier access, catering, power, guest arrival and how the celebration flows.
A change to the layout can affect furniture, service, entertainment and timings.
I look beyond each individual choice to understand what it means for the wedding as a whole, so decisions are made with everything else already in mind.

Hi, I'm Nicole, the wedding planner and coordinator behind The Wedding Hand.
Marquee and tipi weddings are some of my favourite celebrations to work on because you are not simply choosing a venue and fitting your wedding into it. You are building something around your setting, your people and the experience you want to create.
They also bring together a brilliant mix of suppliers, logistics and moving parts.
My job is to hold the complete picture, bring everyone together and understand not only how your wedding needs to work, but how you want it to feel.
So you can have all the freedom of creating something entirely your own, without having to be the person responsible for running it.

Do I need a wedding coordinator for a marquee or tipi wedding?
I would always recommend having dedicated wedding coordination for a marquee or tipi wedding.
Unlike a traditional wedding venue, there is not usually one established venue team responsible for bringing every supplier, timing and practical element of the celebration together.
As your wedding coordinator, I become the central point of contact for your supplier team, oversee the timeline and manage the many moving parts behind the scenes so you, your family and your friends can enjoy the wedding rather than run it.
Can you help if we have already booked our marquee or tipi?
Absolutely.
Many couples contact me once they have chosen their site and marquee or tipi company but still have suppliers, logistics and planning decisions to work through.
Through my partial planning package, The Supportive Hand, I can help bring the remaining elements together and build a clear plan around everything you have already chosen.
If most of the planning is complete, my wedding coordination allows me to step in later, understand the wedding fully, brief your suppliers and take responsibility for bringing everything together on the day. You can choose between The Finishing Touch which is a basic package and The Gentle Hand which provides support and ongoing trust building before your special day.

With a marquee or tipi wedding, I am not simply looking at whether I like an individual supplier. I consider how they will work alongside the rest of the team, what they need from the site and how their part fits into the wider plan.
Can you help us plan a marquee wedding at our family home or on private land?
Every site is different, which is why I start with the setting rather than applying a standard wedding plan.
The structure, supplier access, practical infrastructure, guest movement, catering requirement, whether a licence is required and the way the site will operate throughout the day all need to be considered together.
My role is to identify how those elements interact and build a plan around the particular site and wedding you are creating.
Can you coordinate the marquee or tipi setup as well as the wedding day?
Yes. Coordinating multiple independent suppliers is one of the most important parts of a successful dry hire wedding.
Before your wedding day, I ensure every supplier understands the timeline, logistics and key details. On the day itself, I become the main point of contact, allowing everyone to focus on delivering their expertise while I bring every moving part together behind the scenes.
Can we legally get married in a marquee or tipi?
For a legal civil marriage in England and Wales, your ceremony currently needs to take place at a register office or approved premises. A marquee or tipi on private land would not usually qualify as approved premises itself.
Many couples therefore complete the legal formalities separately and then hold a personal celebrant led ceremony in their marquee or tipi with their family and friends.
Wedding law reform is currently being considered, so I always recommend checking the latest requirements with the relevant local registration service when planning your ceremony.
